How to use these values on auction night

An auction price is only meaningful relative to the money in the room. Published $200 values are useless in a $300 league and misleading in a 16-team one, which is why the board here recomputes from your settings instead of scaling a generic list. Set teams, budget and roster spots first, then match scoring and format.

During the auction, update dollars spent and players won after each win you make. The max-bid figure is the highest number you can call and still fill your roster at $1 a slot — bidding above it means punting a bench spot, which is sometimes right early and almost never right late.

Watch the position spend panel too. When the room pays above these values at running back, the surplus has to come out of somewhere, and receivers and quarterbacks get cheaper later. That is the moment to nominate the players you do not want and let other teams burn budget on them.

How to split a $200 auction budget

In a standard 12-team, 16-round auction with a $200 budget, the fifteen roster spots you are not spending on stars still cost $1 each, so the money genuinely in play is closer to $185. A common split is roughly 60% on two or three every-week starters, 30% on the middle of your lineup, and the last 10% held back for the endgame — but the calculator above prices that split for your actual budget instead of assuming $200.

Stars and scrubs vs balanced

Stars and scrubs spends around $150 on three players and fills the rest at minimum price. It wins when the top of the board is genuinely scarce — full PPR receivers, Superflex quarterbacks — and loses when injuries hit, because there is no depth behind the studs. A balanced build buys six or seven players in the $20 to $35 range and almost never wins a league outright, but it rarely finishes last either.

Position-by-position max bids

Set your ceiling per position before nominations start, not while a bidding war is running. The max-bid column does this continuously: it subtracts $1 for every roster spot you still have to fill, so the number you see is the highest bid that still leaves you a legal lineup. In single-quarterback leagues that ceiling is low for quarterbacks and tight ends by design, because replacement level at those spots is cheap.

Nomination strategy that saves money

Nominating is a spending tool, not a queue. Early on, nominate good players you do not want, especially at positions other teams are desperate to fill — every dollar the room spends there is a dollar unavailable when your target comes up. Save the players you actually want for the middle of the auction, once two or three teams have already committed most of their budget.

Reading the room's remaining money

Track how many teams still have real money and how many roster spots they must fill. When only two teams can outbid you, prices for anyone left collapse toward their $1 floor, and that is where the value in an auction actually lives.

The endgame

The last twenty nominations decide more leagues than the first three. Enter them with a few dollars of slack so you can pay $4 instead of $1 for a backup running back attached to a starter, rather than taking whatever is left on the board.

Auction inflation, in plain math

Inflation is the gap between what has been spent and what those players were worth. If $600 has gone out on players valued at $500, the room has overpaid by $100 and every remaining player's fair price rises by roughly that surplus divided by the value still on the board — often 15% to 20% by the middle rounds of a busy auction.

The practical consequence is that a $30 value in an inflated room is a $35 buy, and refusing to pay it leaves you holding cash for players nobody else wants. Deflation runs the same way in reverse: when the room underpays early, wait, because the discount is about to get bigger. Compare each price against the snake-draft ADP board and the tier board to see whether you are paying for the last player in a tier or the first player in the next one down.

How are auction dollar values calculated?

Every roster spot in the league must cost at least $1, so those minimums come out of the total money first. What is left is split across draftable players in proportion to their value over replacement, which is the projected points a player adds above the last startable option at his position.

Why do values change when I change my budget or roster size?

Values are shares of a fixed pool, not fixed prices. A bigger budget inflates every price, and deeper rosters lock up more money in $1 minimums, which shrinks what is available for the top of the board.

What should I pay for a top running back?

Whatever the calculator prices him at in your format, and no more once you account for the roster spots you still need. Use the max-bid tracker: it holds a dollar back for every open slot so a late bidding war cannot leave you unable to fill a lineup.

Do Superflex and TE premium change auction prices?

Substantially. Superflex makes a second quarterback a starter, so quarterback value over replacement rises and quarterbacks take a much larger share of the room's money. TE premium lifts tight end prices in the same way.
